East Lancs newest brewery is fermenting... [by John Ingham] |
Within a matter of days Lancashire will have its seventeenth brewery, of which no fewer than eleven are situated in the East Lancashire area.
The Garthela Brewhouse, situated in Blackburn, should be in production before Christmas. It’s the brainchild of friends Darren Coates and James Charnock who have established their 2.5 barrel plant in an outbuilding at James’ house, which gives its name to the brewery. Only the finest ingredients will be used and the first three beers to be produced will all be named after local food delicacies:
Barm Cake Bitter at 3.8% ABV is pale, malty with a clean bitter finish.
Eccles Cake Ale at 4.2% ABV is darker and richer with a clean tasting hoppiness.
Black Pudding Porter at 4.5% ABV is a velvety, creamy “winter warmer”.
East Lancs CAMRA would like to wish the two guys the best of luck with their micro-brewery.
