Thwaites - the seventh largest brewer in the United Kingdom - remains a fiercely independent family-controlled company. A vertically integrated business, Thwaites represents the epitome of a modern brewery, coupled with the traditional values of an illustrious history dating back to 1807. It boasts a superb fully-automated brewery, which still includes traditional open fermenters.
Using only the finest natural ingredients, Thwaites brew several cask bitters. Thwaites provide a complete route-to-market package from the initial brewing process through to distribution and delivery.
There is never any compromise over quality; a fact highlighted by the ISO 9001:2000 international standard and accreditation to the British Retail Consortium. The company motto, "Progress with Tradition", perfectly portrays the philosophy of a brewery immensely proud of its independence, its heritage and its 21st Century outlook.
Brewery Tours
These are available Monday to Thursday evenings between 7 and 8pm. Each tour takes about just over an hour and is followed by a Lancashire hotpot supper and complimentary drinks in the Visitor's Centre. Cost is £9.50 per person.
Suggested Outlets
Thwaites own quite a large estate of pubs with a large number being in East Lancs. Unfortunately, the availability of cask beer in Thwaites' own pubs does seem to be declining. Rather than try to list all the Thwaites pubs stocking their cask beers here, check out the appropriate page of the Pub Guide section of this website for up-to-date information on their availability.
